Lucas E. Walters, the man convicted Wednesday of murdering his Braintree neighbor in 2009 with an axe, was sentenced Thursday to life in prison with no chance for parole.
Judge Kenneth J. Fishman issued the sentence after hearing victim impact statements from two of the more than 20 members of Phillips’ family and friends who attended the sentencing, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office.
“The courtroom was literally full of people who had been touched by Jeffrey Phillips and missed him,” District Attorney Michael Morrissey said. “Even in success, it was profoundly sad.”
A Norfolk Superior Court Jury found that Walters slayed Jeffrey Phillips with repeated axe blows after Phillips refused to lend him money.
